CARING FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NO-ONE

BLEAKHOLT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC EVERY DAY EXCEPT CHRISTMAS DAY BETWEEN 10AM AND 4PM - PLEASE DO VISIT US AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN

View from BleakholtNestled on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Irwell Valley, Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is a charity committed to caring for dogs, cats, farm animals and small pets. No animal at the Sanctuary is ever put to sleep except on veterinary advice. We aim to find happy loving homes for many of our dogs, cats, rabbits and small mammals. Those that cannot be homed spend the rest of their days with us as do our equines and farm animals.

On a cold winter's day the "bleak" in Bleakholt really means something! However our staff and volunteers are ceaseless in their dedication. None of it would be possible without your support. We hope you will come and visit us as often as you can. This site will be updated with news from the Sanctuary and with details of our many furry friends.

Why not add this page to your "Favourites" and visit us again to see what's new. We welcome feedback so please e-mail us with your comments.

This site uses the Shockwave plug-in. Follow this link Get Shockwave if you need it.

Special feature for our younger visitors! Check out Cassie's jigsaw puzzles over in Kid's Corner. Also keep a look out for Cassie's spying eyes! Find all 10 of them scattered around the site. You can have a go at Blackjack's quiz and be amazed at the fascinating facts our one-eared Friday has found.

Also, please read the heart warming story of Precious, a tale to show you the meaning of neglect and the joy of putting that right.

< BLEAKHOLT NEWS >

News CassieOn 18th August 2008, Cassie, one of our long term resident dogs and President of our Kid's Club was stolen from one of our dog runs on the Sanctuary. Cassie has been undergoing training with a dog behaviourist and was not yet ready for re-homing. She needs to complete her training so if you do see her then please give us a call. She is a large, lively girl so you won't miss her. We are offering a reward for her return so keep your eyes peeled. A larger picture of her can be found on our sponsorship page

News It took everyone by surprise but Summer put in an appearance to brighten up our second Open Day of 2008. Visitors numbers were very good and remained high right throughout the afternoon as the sun shone. We hope you all enjoyed it. This time round our stable staff introduced a topical Olympics theme and livened up the usual horse parade with some running and hurdling that was a lot of fun. This seemed to leave some members of staff more out of breath than the ponies! Elsewhere, plenty of games and attractions kept young and old amused. See you all next time.

News As you will know, financially Bleakholt relies entirely  on the kind generosity of our supporters. Our main source is by way of legacies in Wills. Without these we simply would not survive. Do please remember us in your Will. There are lots of other ways to help us maintain a regular income from setting up a standing order to sponsorship of one of our many animals. We have lots to choose from and you will receive a colourful certificate. Contact us for further information and for more details of some of the animals available for this scheme. They make a great gift. If you pay income tax we can increase your donation by 28% if you complete a Gift Aid declaration. Also, we hope we can tempt you with some Bleakholt goodies available by mail order for your friends and family, or why not just treat yourself! Alternatively why not pop in to our shops to see what we have that may tempt you.

News Go green and recycle. Did you know that you can benefit us by bringing your old mobile phones and most printer cartridges to us for recycling? This is a great way to help the animals and the environment at the same time.

News Unfortunately, we lost one of our long-term residents recently so please read this Tribute by one of our supporters, Martin Fraser.

News We have a new telephone number: 0844 257 0411. Please update your phone book. We have also joined My Charity Page, a new social networking site focusing on charities and fundraising - join up and fundraise for us!

News Can you volunteer?  If you would like to register you can do so with our volunteer registration and have a chat with the Manager or the Deputy Manager on one of our Volunteer Induction Meetings.  These are held on Sundays at 10.00 am in our Visitor Centre.  In 2008 the meetings will be held on:

     24th February
     6th April
