STEP 1 Review the dogs on this site.
In this gallery we have a selection of our dogs that are available for adoption. You can view the photographs of our dogs and get basic information about them. You will also find what we refer to as a "home profile" In this we outline the kind of home that would be suitable for each dog.On some home profiles you may see, older children only, no other animals or other similar requirements. In these cases we have given very careful consideration to these issues, they are not merely recommendations. We are determined to ensure that we do not put dogs into homes that are inappropriate for them.
STEP 2 Visit the Sanctuary and take the dog for a walk.
If you see a dog that you think you might like to adopt, your next step will be to visit us any day between 10 and 4. The dog staff will be pleased to meet you and help you with information about the dogs. At this stage we recommend that you take the dog for a walk so that you can get to know each other. Please note: even though we are open until 4 pm all dogs are back in their kennels by 3 pm.STEP 3 Reserve the dog.
Once you have decided that you have found a dog that will be right for your home you should ask the dog staff to reserve the dog for you. After asking you a series of questions relevant to the care of the dog they will fill out an adoption application that will be passed to the home visitor for your area.STEP 4 The home visit.
The home visitor will phone you to make an appointment to visit you at a mutually convenient time. After discussing the matter with you the home visitor will almost certainly give us a ring and tell us that it is a great home for one of our friends and that we should get on with it. Please note: sometimes we have to decline an offer of a new home for one of our dogs. We do not do this lightly or without good cause. The home visitors decision is final and cannot be appealed to the sanctuary management.STEP 5 The final vet check.
After receiving the call from your home visitor we will determine when you want to collect the dog and arrange for the dog to be seen by the vet the day previous. Assuming the vet is happy you will then be able to collect your new best friend.STEP 6 Collect the dog.
You can then collect the dog. Collections are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can collect your dog any time between 10 and 4. You should allow time for the adoption process which usually takes about 30 minutes. If you wish to collect your dog on a Saturday or a Sunday you will need to arrange an appointment with reception. This is because weekends are very busy and we do not want the adoption process to have to be rushed. Before they leave us all our dogs are deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. If the dog is less than six months old it will not have been neutered yet. In these cases the dog will come back to us at six months of age to be neutered. This neutering is not discretionary, all our dogs are neutered. The donation that we currently ask for is £95.
There are a few situations that would cause us to decline the offer of a new home for one of our dogs. They are:
- We do not rehome rescue animals to homes with children under five years old.
- We do not rehome dogs to homes where they will be left alone for over four hours.
- We do not rehome dogs to homes that do not have a private secure garden or yard.
Other than these issues we would usually be very happy to rehome our dogs to you. If you need any further information you may find it in our FAQ's on this site otherwise you may phone between 10 and 4 each day on 08442 570411 or visit during these same times.
This site is kept as up to date as we possibly can. However, occasionally there are dogs still on the site that have already been reserved. Please be patient if this happens with a dog that you are interested in.
