Bleakholt is very lucky to have so many good friends who make donations to the cause. We know that it is completely unrealistic to fund our work from just a few major contributors. Even if we could do this it would leave us very vulnerable to changes in our contributors circumstances.
What is safer is what actually happens; that is we get a large number of smaller donations. These come from a wide range of wonderful people, many of whom are even anonymous. If you are one of these marvellous people thank you is nowhere near a sufficient response.
What does it cost to run Bleakholt?
If we ask this question it is very rare for anyone to guess close to the actual figure.
In fact our annual funding requirements are a little over £1,000,000 per year!
This does not include any development in our facilities or services.
We have done a lot of development over the last ten years that was not included in these figures.
What would my donation cover?
This is something that might take some of you by surprise. For example:
- £50 would cover— both vaccinations and a castrate operation for a female cat.
- Or both vaccinations and a microchip for a female cat.
- Or a castration for a dog.
- Or feed and provide bedding for a horse for two months.
- Or feed a rabbit for six months.
- £100 would cover—both vaccinations, microchip and castrate for a small dog.
- Or a spey operation for a large dog.
- Or feed and provide bedding for a horse for four months.
- Or vaccinate, microchip and spey a female cat.
- Or feed a rabbit for a year.
- £500 would cover— all medical care and feeding to rehome a medium or large dog.
- Or all the medical care and feeding to rehome two cats.
- Or 60 microchips for dogs or cats.
- Or pay for 65 vaccinations for dogs, cats or rabbits.
Needless to say donations in excess of £500 would also be effectively utilised to the benefit of our animals.
In addition to donations such as these Bleakholt benefits from even larger sums. These are often legacies from our supporters, sometimes donations from business and industry but most often normal donations from supporters who are more affluent than most of us. These funders often ask that the money be targeted to specific projects. We are usually happy to do this. This is the reason why some of our buildings have names such as Waddington Kennels and Keller Kennels.
Whatever you are thinking of doing for us we are very grateful to you. You and others like you play a very important part in Bleakholt. The public often say to us what good work we are doing. That is very nice to hear; however without you all in the background we couldn’t do anything.
So thank you all for everything you do for us.
