We’re so excited to share something brand new at Bleakholt this year: our Adopt a Schoolyard Animal programme!

This special initiative invites schools and community/youth groups to symbolically adopt one of our wonderful residents. The programme is a brand new way for schools to connect with real rescue animals while learning about kindness, empathy and responsible animal care.

Through the programme, children will discover:

  • How rescued animals are cared for
  • Why animal welfare matters
  • The importance of kindness, empathy and responsibility
  • How charities make a difference in their communities

Each school receives a welcome pack introducing their adopted animal, sharing their story and personality, and explaining how the Sanctuary looks after them every day.

Making a Real Difference

Every adoption as part of this initiative in 2026 helps provide essentials like food, bedding, vet care and enrichment for the animals who call Bleakholt home. Many of our residents have come from difficult backgrounds, and support from schools and community groups helps us give them the safe, happy life they deserve.

Perfect for Schools

The programme works beautifully alongside lessons about animals, the environment, and community care. Schools can also take part through fundraising days, assemblies or visits to the Sanctuary… whatever works best for them.

Choose Your Package

Schools can choose from three tiers, Bronze, Silver and Gold, with each offering a meaningful way to support a rescued animal while enriching classroom learning. All packages include a certificate of adoption, personalised updates and a live curriculum-linked Zoom session with their chosen animal, while the higher tiers also provide classroom resources and displays, exclusive behind-the-scenes content and meet the animal carer content, and an educational day to visit the Sanctuary in person, including a full tour, activities, and hands-on learning.
