A goat brought Manchester Metrolink to a standstill on a busy Monday morning, January 16th 2023!

Peter, the Head of our Farm section, got a phone call from Manchester Metrolink saying there was a goat on the tracks which was stopping the trams. The service was live so there were trams going back and forth. They had managed to catch him and taken it to their depot and tied him up safely.  However the weather was setting in and it was a cold day and he needed to be sheltered inside, so Peter went to collect him. He was obviously stressed out and from the look of him, he had been out for some time. He was quite thin and he obviously wasn’t a young goat.

We have called him Thomas for now as he was found on the tracks! He is a Pygmy goat so he is quite small and is about the size of a Labrador.

Peter said “He has been used to people and he is quite tame, but he is old as he has some arthritis and has a limp on one of his legs. Goats are legally required to have ear tags but his has been ripped off. If no-one claims him we will rehome him here.”

If anyone knows Thomas, or has any information on his family, please do get in touch so he can be reunited – proof of ownership will be required. You can phone us on 01706 822577 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) or email us at: farm@bleakholt.org

No one has come forward for him yet, but he is warm and safe here. He has a big snuggly coat, a lovely comfy stable and he will get all the medical help he needs. It goes without saying that Thomas will get plenty of TLC and of course – lots of delicious food!

If he does end up making his home here, once he is settled in, he will have lots of pals in our goat family! Here’s our other pygmy goats:

Here’s a pic of Thomas in his new winter coat going for a walk (23 Jan) – so handsome! He is quite tame but will occasionally butt your knees!
