Great Manchester 10K Run raises over £9,500!
The Great Manchester 10K Run took place on Sunday 22 May 2016 and Bleakholt entered a team of 17 runners to raise money for our Sanctuary. The runners included actress Gemma Atkinson, our Vice President, running in fancy dress on the day. This event was a spectacular success for Bleakholt, as not only did we have our own dedicated team, but there were several independent runners who also nominated Bleakholt as their charity of choice and we can’t thank them enough for all their hard work and for thinking of us.
Around 35,000 runners took to the streets for this year’s run and Gemma joined our team of Bleakholt Trustees, volunteers, supporters and animal lovers to run the 6.1 mile course. It was a fantastic day all round and Gemma said: “I love keeping fit but I’m not a runner. Saying that, I really enjoyed the 10k run and was proud of my time. The crowd was superb and spurred me on.”
“The reason I was doing it was for Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, a charity close to my heart. Although the animals can’t thank you themselves, I know they will all be grateful with their new beds, toys, training areas, kennels, food – all the items everyone’s donations will go towards.”
Our Operations Manager, Stuart Murray, who took part in the run, said: “Bleakholt relies solely on donations, so events like this are vital to the running of Bleakholt so we want to thank everyone who took part and donated.” (No pun intended there I’m sure Stuart!).
The amount of money raised – over £9,500 – is extraordinary and we are still counting so watch this space! This is an incredible start to a major fundraising campaign to replace some of our dog kennels.
If anyone has any pics of the day they’d like to send us, please email the sanctuary.
