HOW CAN I HELP? - There are many different
ways that you can help the Sanctuary and this page should give you a
few ideas. If you have any other ideas then let us know! Of course,
financial contributions are very important to the Sanctuary which is a
non-profit making charity. The cost of keeping Bleakholt running
covering essentials such as feed and veterinary care continues to rise.
It is now approaching a figure of £1,000,000 we need to raise
annually to meet these expenses which is no mean feat. Our dog and cat
galleries contain more information of the costs of looking after our
animals. Any contribution, small or large, makes a difference. However
there are lots of other ways to help by volunteering your time or other
services. There are always things that need doing around here. |
|
HOME AN ANIMAL - The Sanctuary provides a home for in
excess of 450 animals at any one time. Whilst our equines and other
farm animals will spend the rest of their lives here at Bleakholt, we
have a host of dogs, cats and rabbits that would love a new caring
home. Do you live nearby and looking for a new best friend? Whilst we
frequently have puppies and kittens available for homing, our older
residents would also like to have to pack their suitcase! They can
often be less troublesome than a younger animal that is still exploring
the world. Please consider them as well. If you have any particular
requirements, have a word with us. We can probably help. You might need
a dog that is happy with less than average exercise or a cat that just
wants to sit on your knee. Give us a call. Take a look at our dog and cat
galleries for a selection of the type of animals we have presently
looking for that special home. If you are interested in a rabbit just
give us a visit to find your new bunny friend. And remember that, just
like us, animals like company so why not take two! |

|
SPONSOR AN ANIMAL - As we have said our horses,
donkeys, cows, sheep and goats stay at the Sanctuary and are not for
re-homing. However that does not mean you cannot help them and support
them. Bleakholt runs a Sponsorship scheme which covers all the above
animals as well as a number of our dogs, cats and rabbits which for
different reasons cannot be re-homed. Sponsors receive a lovely pack
containing a photograph of your chosen animal and a certificate to
keep. A sponsorship makes an ideal gift for those that are unable to
have an animal at home or live too far away from us. Visit our Sponsorship Gallery to see some of the animals we have available for you to sponsor and remember we have many more at
the Sanctuary. If you would like to sponsor your favourite then please complete and return to us a sponsorship form. If you have any questions or want
more information, contact us here at the Sanctuary. |

REMEMBER US IN YOUR WILL - Legacies in Wills is the
single greatest source of funds to the Sanctuary. Gifts to charities in
a Will are tax free and so not only can you help Bleakholt, there can
be a benefit to your estate. As property prices increase then more
people are potentially becoming liable to pay Inheritance Tax. This tax
can be legitimately avoided or reduced through proper tax planning,
including charitable gifts. Wouldn't you rather benefit your favourite
animal friends instead of possibly paying yet more tax when you pass
away? A suitable clause would be : "I give to
Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary (Registered Charity No 1110503) of Bury Old
Road, Edenfield, Ramsbottom, BL0 0RX absolutely the sum of £xxx
AND I DECLARE that the receipt of a person who appears to be a proper
officer of any charity which benefits under this my Will shall be a
sufficient discharge to my Trustees AND I DECLARE that if before my
death (or after my death but before my Trustees have given effect to
the gift in question) any charitable or other body to which a gift is
made in this my Will has changed its name or has amalgamated with or
transferred all its assets to any other body then my Trustees shall
give effect to the gift as if it had been made (in the first case) to
the body in its changed name or (in the second case) to the body which
results from such amalgamation or to which the transfer has been made."
A solicitor can advise you fully. |

VISIT US AND SHOP WITH US - The Sanctuary is open
7 days a week between 10am and 4pm. There is no entrance fee. If you
want to bring a school party, arrangements can be made with our
manager. We have a shop on site selling Bleakholt souvenirs, pet
products and more. If you can't visit then we offer a mail order
service. Have a browse through our Mail Order Form which you can print off and send to us. We also have a cafe which is
open at weekends where you can buy a snack and a drink. We have shops in Blackburn and Accrington (see our Find Us
section). Good quality household items and ornaments to sell in our
shops are always welcome. Please note we are not able to re-sell
electrical items. Also we struggle to sell clothes and books. We would
ask that the items you donate are of saleable quality as otherwise it
simply costs us money to dispose of them which defeats the object. Just
ask yourself whether you would be willing to purchase the item in that
condition. We hold regular Open Days through the year. Details of the
next event are on our Home page. |

BECOME A MEMBER - We are constantly looking for new members. Membership entitles you to receive our regular newsletter and list of events as
well as being able to attend and vote at our Annual General Meeting. To become a member complete the Membership Form. If you are already a
member why not enroll a friend? We would also be grateful for any Donation you could make. |

HELP AT THE SANCTUARY - Willing volunteers are a huge asset to the Sanctuary and the running of Bleakholt would be
impossible without them. This can cover walking our dogs, helping in our cafe or shops, a spot of gardening or painting or
anything else. If you would like to register you can do so with our
volunteer registration
and have a chat
with the Manager or the Deputy Manager on one of our Volunteer
Induction Meetings. These are held on Sundays at 10.00 am in our
Visitor Centre. In 2008 the meetings will be held on: Finally we extend a sincere THANK YOU to all our supporters. |
