CARING FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NO-ONE

BLEAKHOLT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC EVERY DAY EXCEPT CHRISTMAS DAY BETWEEN 10AM AND 4PM - PLEASE DO VISIT US AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN

View from BleakholtNestled on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Irwell Valley, Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is a charity committed to caring for dogs, cats, farm animals and small pets. No animal at the Sanctuary is ever put to sleep except on veterinary advice. We aim to find happy loving homes for many of our dogs, cats, rabbits and small mammals. Those that cannot be homed spend the rest of their days with us as do our equines and farm animals.

On a cold winter's day the "bleak" in Bleakholt really means something! However our staff and volunteers are ceaseless in their dedication. None of it would be possible without your support. We hope you will come and visit us as often as you can. This site will be updated with news from the Sanctuary and with details of our many furry friends.

Why not add this page to your "Favourites" and visit us again to see what's new. We welcome feedback so please e-mail us with your comments.

This site uses the Shockwave plug-in. Follow this link Get Shockwave if you need it.

Special feature for our younger visitors! Check out Robert's jigsaw puzzles over in Kid's Corner. Also keep a look out for Robert's spying eyes! Find all 10 of them scattered around the site. You can have a go at Blackjack's quiz and be amazed at the fascinating facts our one-eared Friday has found.

Also, please read the heart warming story of Precious, a tale to show you the meaning of neglect and the joy of putting that right.

< BLEAKHOLT NEWS >

News Well, 2008's Open Days got off to a somewhat typical damp start. It looked like the rain was going to settle in for the day but thankfully kept at bay for most of the afternoon . For those of you stuck in the barn at the time, we even had a whole 5 seconds of sunshine. Thanks go to our president Ted Robbins who popped in to see us. This Open Day we introduced a Wild West theme to festivities. There were lots of themed games for young and old to demonstrate their skill, as well as themed photographs with some of our horses. There were various parades and shows with all of our animals throughout the afternoon to keep smiles on faces and we hope all those brave souls who ventured out had a great "yeehah" time!

News As the warmer weather approaches and the thoughts of summer get-aways surface, here at the Sanctuary we are readying ourselves for the seasonal influx of animals dumped or abandoned when their owners go on holiday. If you could offer a loving home to one of our many furry friends then please do visit. Blackpool rock isn't a good idea for our residents so why not help us pay for an alternative suitable animal treat. Just £1.00 will cover the cost of a treat so any donation you are able to make at this time of year would be gratefully received.

News If you are looking for a gift that is a little different then may we tempt you with a sponsorship of one of our many animals. We have lots to choose from and you will receive a colourful certificate. Contact us for further information and for more details of some of the animals available for this scheme. Also, we hope we can tempt you with some Bleakholt goodies available by mail order for your friends and family, or why not just treat yourself! Alternatively why not pop in to our shops to see what we have that may tempt you

News Go green and recycle. Did you know that you can benefit us by bringing your old mobile phones and most printer cartridges to us for recycling? This is a great way to help the animals and the environment at the same time.

News Can you volunteer?  If you would like to register you can do so with our volunteer registration and have a chat with the Manager or the Deputy Manager on one of our Volunteer Induction Meetings.  These are held on Sundays at 10.00 am in our Visitor Centre.  In 2008 the meetings will be held on:

     24th February
     6th April
     4th May
     11th June
     13th July
     3rd August
     7th September
     5th October
